Bambu H2D Pro Printers: Access, Rules and Health & Safety
We currently have 2 Bambu H2D Pro 3D printers available for use by inducted and experienced CCI students.
These printers are faster and more precise than the Ultimaker printers, but they are also more sensitive. Incorrect use can damage the nozzle, print head, filament path, or machine.
Important Rules
1. Do not log out of the Bambu admin account
For health and safety reasons, the Bambu H2D Pro printers are USB access only.
Please do not log out of the Bambu admin account. Logging out may affect the printer setup and access for other users.
Students who repeatedly fail to follow this rule may be banned from using the Labs.
2. Do not share your access card
Lab use is limited to inducted CCI students only. If you are helping an uninducted CCI student, you must make sure that you are running the machine at all times.
Uninducted students:
- Cannot operate the machines themselves
- Cannot access the Lab alone
- Cannot use another student’s access card
- Cannot load, unload, or change filament
- Cannot start or manage a print independently
If you are the inducted student helping someone else, you are responsible for making sure the printer is used correctly.
Who Can Use the Bambu Printers?
To have access to the Bambu H2D Pro printers, you must have:
- Completed the 3D printing induction on ORB
- Completed several successful prints on the Ultimaker printers, supervised by a technician
- Sufficient experience in checking, preparing, and slicing your own models before printing
- Lab door access and approval as one of the Lab’s advanced users
Important reminder:
We usually run 3D printing inductions at the start of the academic year, rather than in the middle or at the end of the year. If you have not completed the 3D printing induction between September and March, then you cannot operate the machine yourself.
If you have not been inducted, you may ask another inducted CCI student to help you print. However, they must be the person operating the machine at all times. You cannot operate the printer yourself.
Free Filament and Personal Items
Please do not use the Lab’s free filament to print personal household items or lifestyle objects.
The free filament is provided to support academic, creative, research, and course-related projects only.
If students are found using Lab materials for personal items, access to free materials may be withdrawn.
Print Jobs May Be Cancelled
Print jobs may be cancelled if:
- The user cannot be identified
- The print job does not include the correct name or notes
- The printer is used without a valid ORB booking or slack message
- The material, AMS slot, or nozzle assignment does not match the printer setup
- The printer is being used by an uninducted student
Repeated failure to follow the rules may result in being banned from using the Labs.
