(readme) Lab Access and Machine Use

We currently have the following machines available for use by inducted students:

  • 6 Ultimaker 3D printers
  • 1 Trotec laser cutter
  • 58 Bambu H2D Pro 3D printers

The UltimakerBambu H2D Pro 3D printers and Trotec laser cutter are available to students who have completed the relevant induction.

The Bambu H2D Pro 3D printers are only available to inducted and experienced students who meet the additional requirements listed below.

Access Requirements

To access and use the machines, you must havefirst completedcomplete the relevant induction on ORB:

  • 3D Printing Induction
  • Laser Cutting Induction

Important: Inductions usuallyare takenormally placedelivered during the main induction periods at the startbeginning of the academic year, between Septemberyear and March.
during the spring term. We do not normally run additional inductions in the middle or attowards the end of the academic year.

If you have not completed the requiredrelevant induction, you cannotmust not operate the machines yourself.

If you know another CCI student who has completed the relevant induction, they may help you may ask them to help print or cutproduce your work for you.work. However, theythe inducted student must operate the machine themselves and remain responsible for the process at all times.

Lab Access Rules

LabIndependent lab access is limited to inductedapproved experienced CCI students only.

If you arehave anbeen experiencedgranted orindependent inductedlab user:access:

  • Do not share your access card
  • Do not allow uninducted students to accessenter or use the lab aloneindependently
  • Do not allow uninducted students to operate the machines
  • If you are helping an uninducted CCI student, you must operate the machine yourself and supervise the process at all times
  • Never leave the laser cutter running unattended
  • Never transfer responsibility for supervising a machine to another student without prior agreement from a technician

Repeated failure to follow these rules may result in your lab or machine access being suspended or removed.

How to Get Independent Lab Access

Completing an induction allows you to use the relevant machine, but it does not automatically give you independent door access to the lab being removed.

Bambu H2D Pro Access Requirements

The Bambu H2D Pro printers are for inducted and experienced users only..

To usebe theconsidered Bambufor H2Dindependent Prolab printers,access, you must have:must:

  1. CompletedComplete the relevant 3Dmachine Printing Induction on ORBinduction
  2. CompletedComplete several successful prints onor thecuts Ultimaker printers, supervised by aunder technician supervision
  3. DemonstratedDemonstrate sufficientthat experienceyou incan checkingcorrectly check and preparingprepare 3D modelsfiles before printingfabrication
  4. DemonstratedDemonstrate that you can check the estimated printjob duration in the slicer or relevant software and book an appropriate ORB slot based on the required print time
  5. DemonstratedDemonstrate that you can operate the printerequipment independentlyindependently, safely, and responsibly
  6. ReceivedReceive approval to become one offrom the lab’sDigital advancedFabrication usersLab technician team

Once approved, you may be granted lab door access and permission to book the machinesequipment in advance,advance.

Before Using the Bambu H2D Pro Printers

Before using a Bambu H2D Pro printer, make sure that you have booked a valid equipment slot.slot on ORB.

Please refer to the Book Your SlotsSlot page for the correct booking procedure.

Important: Print jobs may be cancelled if:

  • The user cannot be identified
  • The print job does not include the correctrequired student Slack name or notesbooking information has not been provided
  • The printer is being used without a valid booking
  • The bookingperson using the printer does not match the studentORB using the machinebooking

Please Do Not

When using the Bambu H2D Pro printers, please do not:

  • Log out of the Bambu admin account
  • Change machine settings unless instructed by a technician
  • Carry out repairs or maintenance yourself
  • Change or replace the nozzle yourself
  • Add, remove, or change filament yourself unless you have been specifically inducted or instructed to do so
  • Use thea printersprinter without a valid ORB booking
  • Allow another student to use your booking or access card
  • Leave an uninducted student to operate the printer on their ownindependently

Repeated failureFailure to follow thethese rules may result in beingyour bannedmachine from using theor lab access being suspended or having your access removed.
