Silver Reed to Brother Translation Guide
We have a new knitting machine!!
We have moved over from Silver Reed SK840 to a Brother KH940. These machines function in the same way but some aspects are different. See below for a Silver Reed to Brother translation Guide/
Needle Positions
On the Silver Reed, the needle positions are A, B, C, and D whereas the Brother machine skips C so uses A, B, D, and E (I have no idea why).
| Silver Reed | Brother | |
|---|---|---|
| Non-working position (NWP) | A | A |
| Working position (WP) | B | B |
| Upper working position (UWP) | C | D |
| Hold position (HP) | D | E |
Threading the Auto-tension
The brother auto-tension unit threads up slightly differently to the Silver Reed. Pay close attention to the below diagram.
Carriage Controls
For regular stockinet knitting (which is called Stocking Stitch in the manual), make sure that:
- the Holding Cam Lever is set to N
- All the Cam Buttons are released - do this by slilding the Cam Buttons Release Lever to the right
- The Change Know is set to N.L
