What software is available at CCI?
We have a range of software available on our computers on site, for remote access, and that you can install on your own personal computers.
On your own device
As a student at UAL you have access to a range of software you can install and use on your own computers for educational purposes:
Free from UAL
- Microsoft Office – Login using your UAL account and select "Install Office" in the top right corner.
Discount available from UAL
UAL offers a massive discount on Adobe Creative Cloud for all students, this discount is on top of the usual student pricing, in 2020-21 that meant that Creative Cloud was only £48 for the 12 months from 14th August 2020 to 13th August 2021, over the £16.14 per month that you'd usually pay.
Note: This is a fixed period license, meaning it starts from the 14th August 2020 and ends on the 13th August 2021 regardless of when you actually start paying for and using it and there is no pro-rated discount, however it's still cheaper if you sign up before 13th May 2021.
Free for students
On CCI devices
CCI has 24x Dell Windows 10 PCs, 16x Apple Mac Minis and 24x Apple MacBook Pro 13" laptops, you can access a range of software from UAL's self-serivce applications ZENWorks on Windows, and UAL Self-Service on macOS.
Remote access
As a CCI student you can remotely access Windows 10 and macOS desktops from home over the internet using our remote access tools VMWare Horizon for Windows, and Splashtop for macOS.
Note: At this time Splashtop access is restricted to BSc Year 2 and UAL Diploma students who require this for their studies and do not have a Mac, this restriction will lift in Summer 2021.
VMWare Horizon for Windows 10 remote access
You can remotely access a Windows 10 desktop by logging into desktop.arts.ac.uk where you can use "HTML Access" in the web browser, or "Install the VMWare Horizon Client" for a better performance, more immersive access.
When logging in you will use your usual UAL username and password, if you've installed the desktop client you'll need to use "desktop.arts.ac.uk" as the server name.
Tip: You should always use "ARTSLOCAL" as your Windows domain when logging in, not "SITS".
Splashtop for macOS remote access
You can remotely access a macOS desktop by installing Splashtop for Business Access from the Splashtop website, be careful to only install Splashtop for Business Access and none of the other options.
Once installed the application will ask you to login, you should click the "Single Sign-On" link below the login form, do not try to login with your UAL credentials directly as this will not work.
On the "Single Sign-On" form it will ask for your UAL email address, which will redirect you to a more familiar Microsoft login, again asking for your email, which will then present the UAL login screen. After these steps your account will stay signed in and you'll be able to access a macOS desktop.
