What is voice lift?

Voice lift, or sound reinforcement, is an AV technique in which the sound of your voice is subtly amplified throughout the room to ensure that everyone has a similar hearing experience, whether right next to you or 10 rows back.

Pros

  • Voice lift ensures everyone can hear you regardless of where you are in the room.
  • People with light or undiagnosed hearing loss can sit anywhere in the room.

Cons

  • Excessively loud voice lift can be fatiguing to listen to.
  • Sound can bleed into the next room.

Key things to remember

  • You need to be wearing a microphone properly and avoid wearing loose items of clothing or jewllery near the mic.
  • Do not touch or hold the microphone as this will be amplified to everyone.
  • Voice lift can only amplify so much, at some point classroom behaviour has to be managed.
