(readme) Access, Rules and Health & Safety

We have 8 Bambu H2D Pro 3D printers available for inducted and experienced CCI students. Please don't use the laser cutter; you must complete the laser cutter induction and several supervised cuts before you can use the machine yourself. Never share the laser cutter key or allow other people to use your pass to get into the lab.

Improper use can damage the machine or start a fire.

Who Can Use the Bambu Printers

To use the Bambu printers and get lab door access, you must have completed:

Stage 1: Basic knowledge learning

  • Finished the Bambu Lab Academy H2D Pro study - at least the Basic Section, and show the technician your completed page: Bambu Lab Academy
  • Completed the 3D printing induction (Book on ORB)

Stage 2: Getting hands-on experience

  • Completed several successful technician-supervised prints (book supervised slots with the lab technician on Slack - this is just tutorial time, won't guarantee a machine during busy periods)
  • Practice to have enough experience to check the machine and prepare your models properly before printing

Stage 3: Pro Users

  • Lab door access will be assigned after several successful prints; after this, before you need to use the machine, you could book the printer through ORB according to your print time + 30 minutes operating time. Always name your printing file starting with your Slack name; unknown prints will get cancelled.
  • Booking page: ORB - Book Your Slots page before use.
  • Please don't use the laser cutter by yourself untill you've got the Silver keychain.
Important: 3D printing inductions only take place at the start of the academic year, not mid- or end-of-year. If you have not completed the induction between September and March, then you won't have access to the machines. You may ask another inducted student to print for you. However, they must operate the machine at all times, and you cannot operate the printer yourself.

Students must not:

  • Do not log out of the Bambu admin account. For health and safety reasons, the Bambu H2D Pro printers are USB access only.
  • Add or change filament yourself unless you have been specifically inducted to do so
  • Attempt to repair, dismantle or troubleshoot the machine internally
  • Remove or replace the nozzle / hotend
  • Change hardware components
  • Modify system, network or machine-level settings
  • Factory reset the printer
  • Log out of, remove or change the lab's Bambu account
  • Add personal Bambu accounts to the printer
  • Change settings that affect how the printer is configured for the lab

Print Jobs May Be Cancelled

Print jobs may be cancelled if:

  • The user cannot be identified
    • The print job is not named as the student Slack name or noted by the machine
    • The printer is used by an uninducted student
  • The printer is used without a valid ORB booking or Slack message
  • The material, AMS slot, or nozzle assignment does not match the printer setup
  • Print failed

Repeated failure to follow the rules may result in being banned from using the Labs.

Do not share your access card

Please do not share your access card.

Lab use is limited to inducted CCI students only. If you are helping an uninducted CCI student, you must make sure that you are running the machine at all times.

Uninducted students:

  • Cannot operate the machines themselves
  • Cannot access the Lab alone
  • Cannot use another student’s access card
  • Cannot load, unload, or change filament
  • Cannot start or manage a print independently

If you are the inducted student helping someone else, you are responsible in operating the machine for them and making sure the printer is used correctly.

Free Filament and Personal Items

Please do not use the Lab’s free filament to print personal household items or lifestyle objects.

The free filament is provided to support academic, creative, research, and course-related projects only.

If students are found using Lab materials for personal items, access to free materials may be withdrawn.
