Automatic Yarn Changer

The Silver Reed YC6 Automatic Yarn Changer is an attachment for the knitting machine that allows you to semi-automaticaly switch between 4 different yarn colours. You can find the manual here.

If it is your first time using this, please talk to Rosie or Agnes first!

  2. Using a screw driver or pencil, push the sponge bar from the left side of the machine so that it protrudes by 2-3cm.

  1. Loosen the Securing wheel "A" on the yarn changer as much as it will go then insert the Securing Plate "B" into the guide hole of the sponge bar on the left hand side. Turn the securing wheel "A" to tighten it, making sure it is flush with the side of the machine.

  2. Take yarns B, C, and D and hook them into the Yarn Changer as below then wrap the ends around the post.

Switching colours

  1. With the carriage on the right-hand side, push button A to move it into (1) position.

  2. Push Feeding Lever "D" to the left to bring Holder A into (2) position

  3. To switch to Yarn B, push Holder Button B to move it into (1) position

  4. Raise the driving lever

  1. Knit the row from right to left and into the Yarn Changer until the driving lever moves the Feeding Lever. The yarns should then be switched over with a click sound.

  2. Continue knitting in your new colour!

Some things to note

  • You can only change colours after an even number of rows
  • When using the Yarn Changer, there will be a strand of yarn going veritcally between rows of the same colour. This is something to be aware of if trying to knit stripes of move than 4 rows per colour as it will limit the amount the fabric can stretch.
  • Sometimes, when switching over the yarns, they can get tangled in the yarn feeder on the carriage. It is good practice to check each time you switch that they have fully swapped over
